His collegiate career may not have ended the way he wanted it to, but Jarell Martin’s professional career is off to a great start. The former LSU forward was selected 25th in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. Mickey to the Grizzlies seemed like a good marriage from the start. While working out for the Grizzlies, Martin said Memphis reminded him of Baton Rouge, it was going to be like playing at home. Martin’s former teammate, Jordan Mickey didn’t wait too terribly long to be drafted. Mickey was drafted 33rd by the Boston Celtics. Thursday night was the first night two LSU basketball players were drafted since 2000 when former Fair Park Indian Stromile Swift was drafted along with Jabari Smith.

 

Byrd golfer Philip Barbaree, Jr. is still taking charge in the Rolex Tournament of Champions in Sunriver, Oregon. Barbaree, Jr. has opened up an 11-shot lead! On Thursday, he had six birdies and one eagle, finishing 8-under-64. If Barbaree, Jr. holds on, this could be his first AJGA victory since 2012. The final round of the tournament is today.

 

The US Women’s National team, begins round of 16 play today in Ottawa, Canada today. The US takes on China at 6:30.
