What's up in local sports?

Evangel was on the brink of elimination Monday afternoon in the LHSAA 3A baseball playoffs.  The Eagles trailed visiting E.D. White, 2-0 and were down to their final four outs.
Shane Miears legged out an infield single with two outs in the bottom of the 6th to ignite the home team.  A throwing error on the play made matters worse for E.D. White, sending Joey Usie home with Evangel's first run. A pair of wild pitches allowed Miears courtesy runner Peyton Jordan and Hunter Shaw to score to give Evangel a 3-2 lead.
Blake Buckman and Austin Stegall each knocked in a run before Ryne Ray blasted a two-run double to complete the 2-out, 7-run uprising.
Miears also earned the win with three innings of relief.  The win sends Evangel to the state tournament in Sulphur.

LSU takes on the University of New Orleans tonight for their last regular season non-conference game.  Hunter Devall gets the start for Paul Mainieri's top-ranked Tigers in the 6:30 game.
On Monday, the SEC announced LSU budding star Alex Lange earned Freshman of the Week honors for the third time this season.  He earned the win Saturday over Missouri with seven innings of strong work, allowing only two hits and one run.  It's the third time the league has bestowed the award on Lange, who is 9-0 this year with a 2.13 earned run average.

The Atlanta Hawks evened their Eastern Conference semi-final series, 2-2 with Washington with a 106-101 win in the nations' capital Monday night. Former Louisiana Tech star, Paul Millsap scored 19 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out six assists for Atlanta.  Jeff Teague led the way with 26 points.  The Wizards were without all-star guard, John Wall for the third straight game due to a broken left hand.
Golden State drilled Memphis 101-84 in the bluff city to knot their Western Conference semi-final series at two-wins apiece. League MVP, Steph Curry pumped in 33 points, including 21 in the first half to help the Warriors regain home court advantage.

LSU-S opens NAIA Regional play in Shawnee, Oklahoma this afternoon when the second-seed in the regional takes on the no. 3 seed, Sterling.  The regional is stacked, with three of the top 18 teams in the most recent NAIA poll in the field, including the host school, Oklahoma Baptist, ranked second in the country.
The Pilots enter the regional on a rampage, winning 16 of their last 18 games.  The regional is a five-team, double-elimination event, so starting pitching will be vital to succces---and that's good news for Al Cantwell's squad.  They come into today's game with the 5th lowest Opponent Batting Average (.217) and seventh lowest Earned Run Average (2.80) in NAIA baseball.
