Here at KWKH, we love George Strait! He is the "King of Country" for very good reasons. I mean he has 59 #1 hits on the charts (breaking the previous record set by Conway Twitty), was named "Artist of the Decade" and in the Country Music Hall of Fame, all of that is amazing!

But as much as you and I both love hearing George Strait sing, there are some things you, and myself did not know about the "King"!

10. He served in the U.S. Army.

9. The inspiration behind his 2005 single "You'll Be There" was his late daughter Jennifer, who passed away in a automobile accident in 1986.

8. He played himself in the 1982 film, "The Soldier". And, would you believe he played a terrorist in the film!

7. He is not a fan of doing interviews, not a shy man, but he just doesn't like doing interviews. I respect that!

6. He was not confident in his 2002 hit single, "Living and Living Well". Strait never thought it would do well.

5. His mother left Strait and the rest of his family when he was a youngster.

4. As much of a success as he is, Strait is NOT a member of the Grand Ole Opry!

3. Strait briefly retired from writing songs, but his son Bubba got him back to writing music again. His single "Twang" was his return single.

2. As I previously stated, Strait has 59 #1 hits, but he has to make a few more albums to break Eddy Arnold record of 92 #1 hits! Let's hope he keeps making music for a long time!!

1. His best-selling single's such as "The Fireman", "True", and "Run" did NOT reach #1 on the charts!

So there you have it, I am pleased to have given you some facts you can mention around the water cooler at work tomorrow morning about George Strait!
