Take a Look at the Mayor’s Plan for Sports Complex and Multi-Use Development

Mayor Ollie Tyler has unveiled details of her plan to develop Cross Bayou. In includes a sports arena to be the home of the New Orleans Pelicans G-League team (if Shreveport is selected), a retail area, a hotel, residential space and much more.

The Shreveport City Council voted 5-2 to keep this item on the agenda which sets up a final vote for September 12th. Only Councilmen Willie Bradford and James Flurry voted against introducing the package. But several Council Members have now charged the Mayor with the job of informing the public about this project which could be a tough sell.

The arena will be about 68,000 square feet custom designed for basketball events. It will have an NBA quality main court with a seating capacity of 3,200.

There will be 2,000 square foot premium club providing 100 court view seats. The facility will also have 120 courtside seats.

But this proposal is way more than just a sports arena. Take a look at the full plan:

HERE’S THE DETAILED PLAN

The Mayor’s report says this complex “balances live, work, play and  stay functions”. It will combine retail, office space, residential and entertainment components. The Complex will also feature a full service hotel.

Costs to the city are projected to run close to $ 30 million dollars.

But a Birmingham, Alabama company would step in to pay for the rest of the development to the tune of $100 million dollars. Corporate Realty of Birmingham would be the lead developer of the complex.

City leaders have also talked about using the complex as a practice facility for the New Orleans Saints.
