Johnny Horton

As far back as I can remember, my dad owned a fish bait store and also had his own delivery route.  I called it the cricket route. When I was about 4 years old, I started going with him on the route. We traveled around Alabama selling fish bait to stores. We went to Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Wetumpka, Tallassee and other towns around the state.

John Gale "Johnny" Horton (April 30, 1925–November 5, 1960) was an American country music and rockabilly singer most famous for his semi-folk, so-called "saga songs" which began the "historical ballad" craze of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
