Country music legend George Jones died early Friday morning (April 26, 2013) at the age of 81 in Nashville at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Jones appeared on the KWKH Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport, Louisiana in it's heyday and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1992.

George Glenn Jones was born on September 12, 1931 in Saratoga, Texas, and was raised in Vidor, Texas, with his brother and five sisters. When he was seven, his parents bought a radio and he heard country music for the first time. Given a guitar when he was nine, Jones was soon busking for money on the streets of Beaumont.

Legendary singer George Jones was finally released from the hospital after being admitted six days ago, on March 29, for an upper respiratory infection. His publicist, Kirt Webster, said in a public statement that the 80-year-old Jones “wants to thank all his friends and fans for their prayers and well wishes over the past few days.”
