It’s a historical day on the campus of C.E. Byrd High School as Field Turf is being installed on the field behind school, which will be used by the football, soccer and lacrosse teams as well as by physical education classes.

On a night where the Byrd Yellow Jackets celebrated their Homecoming, it turns out the performance on the field was something to celebrate even more, as the Jackets advance to 7-0.

The Byrd Yellow Jackets send their crosstown rivals, the Captain Shreve Gators to their second straight district loss with their 8-7 extra inning victory Monday night.

The Byrd Yellow Jackets and Captain Shreve Gators continue their big rivalry weekend on the diamond this weekend.

Fans of both the Byrd Yellow Jackets and Loyola Flyers who hoped to see a well played game between the teams were disappointed Wednesday afternoon.

On Friday, Nov. 9, the Yellow Jackets will battle the Chiefs in the Bi-district round of the Class 5A playoffs. Byrd is the No. 15 seed while Natchitoches is the No. 18 seed. Kickoff for the opening round game is set for 7 p.m. at Lee Hedges Stadium.

The Byrd Yellow Jackets begin District 1-5A play on the road tonight at 7:00 p.m. on 1130 The Tiger. The Yellow Jackets are in Haughton at Harold Harlan Stadium to take on the Buccaneers who have a perfect 5-0 on the season. Hear the play by play with Charlie Cavell.

C.E. Byrd and Calvary will be participating in this Saturday's Battle on the Border.  It's a prep football showcase that will bring in reigning State Champions, West Monroe and from just across the state line, Marshall High School.  I talked to the head coaches to ask them what it's like to play at Independence Stadium on a big stage.

As Charlie Cavel, voice of Byrd High School Footbal says on his Facebook page, "Football season officially begins tonight for me."

Byrd beat the Gators in District play, then went on to go undefeated. The Byrd Yellow Jackets will cross town to take on the Captain Shreve Gators tonight.
