Circle Michael Keaton’s Vulture in This New ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Feature

Is it strange that Marvel keeps releasing features for Spider-Man: Homecoming? The film is already riding a wave of critical and audience praise; many who have seen it have suggested that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is the best of the bunch, with the movie itself sitting near the top of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Homecoming has been the subject of trailers, features, commercials, and everything in between, and if I have any complaint with the way Disney operates, it’s this: don’t keep selling after you close the deal, my dudes! We’re all super excited to see the continuing adventures of Peter Parker on the big screen.

Ah, well. Today we’re treated to another featurette (via Heroic Hollywood), this one detailing the rise to power of Michael Keaton’s Vulture. One of the more positive elements of the Spider-Man: Homecoming buzz has been the response to Keaton’s character. To hear critics say it, Vulture is one of the best villains in the MCU  —  a noticeable weak spot in a franchise engineered to have none  —  and a big part of why the film works as a more grounded superhero story. It’s certainly interesting to hear Keaton weigh in on the character, and to see a little bit more footage of the Vulture in action, but that whole bit about explaining his rationale? Seriously, has any actor ever played a villain and just went, “Yep, he’s a baddie”?

Here’s the full synopsis for Spider-Man: Homecoming:

Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May, under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark. Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine — distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man — but when the Vulture emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.

In addition to Holland and Keaton, Homecoming will star Robert Downey, Jr., Marisa Tomei, and Zendaya. The film will swing its way into theaters on July 7, 2017.
