An owner of Sonic Restaurants has donated a large sum of money to the state to provide free child safety seats to families in need, even right here in Caddo Parish.

Kergin Bros. Sonic has donated around $48,000 to purchase 1,000 child safety seats. The money was raised through the sale of 2016 "Tot" Calanders at 54 locations in Louisiana.

In a press release from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office, it is outlined how families can apply for a free saftey seat.

Qualifying families who are not able to purchase their own child safety car seat can sign up online at http://www.umcno.org/injuryprevention. The deadline to apply is April 10. Approved applicants will receive their child safety seats at a future event where the seats will be properly installed by certified child passenger safety technicians with the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force (LPSTF).

The LPSTF is an injury prevention special interest group run by the University Medical Center New Orleans Trauma Program, and it is a network of people, including Caddo Parish Deputies, dedicated to correctly installing child safety restraints.
