Local families are rallying behind a Captain Shreve senior who's been battling bone cancer.
Haley Hooker was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma this past April. The 17-year-old lives in Blanchard with her mom, Angela Christy, who had to take a leave of absence from her job at Carter Federal Credit Union to be with Haley at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Haley's dad Kevin and his wife Heather Walker Hooker visit St. Jude as often as they can and do as much as possible to support Haley in her battle against the disease.

Haley is in her 11th week of chemotherapy, with 28 weeks to go. She had surgery on July 7, 2014, to remove the cancerous bone in her left leg. A prosthetic was implanted, and she's undergoing physical therapy and continued chemotherapy.

Friends are trying to raise funds for household expenses and to help cover doctor's visits. So they've organized a fundraiser softball tournament. A silent auction, jump houses for the kids, and food and beverages are also in the works.

There's a $200 entry fee per softball team. Teams will consist of 10 members, with a maximum of four males per team. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, October 11, at Cargill Park fields  6-10. The registration deadline is September 22, 2014.
