I can remember this day so vividly. My boy Tiger was with me and we were among the first in the gate when the Shreveport Dog Park opened for business.

Since the beginning, there have been hurdles. We've had snow and a spring flood that forced the city to close the park for a few months.

The Shreveport Dog Park Alliance posted this: "We've learned a lot and have had a lot of fun! Let's keep it up, keep it clean, follow the rules, and take pride in our wonderful dog park."

The battle over the dog park dragged on for several years and finally came to fruition after a court fight between then Mayor Cedric Glover and dog park enthusiasts. Funding for the project came from the Red River Waterway Commission, but Glover did not want that money used for the dog park. He thought the city had other higher priorities on the riverfront. But the council voted to accept the funding for the dog park.
