The Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce Board has selected Dr. Timothy J. Magner to serve as its next president.

According to a Chamber news release, Dr. Magner's experience ranges from directing national non-profit organizations to leadership positions in the public, private and government sectors, including as a senior federal policy-maker.

Magner is currently the Chief Information Officer for the LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. He succeeds the retiring Richard Bremer, who led the chamber for 16 years.

"We believe Dr. Magner is the right person at the right time to lead the Chamber," said Dr. Philip Rozeman, the Chamber's Chairman. "He is not only dedicated to our community, he is ready to expand the role of the Chamber and strengthen the voice of the business community in NWLA."

Here's more about Dr. Magner:

Prior to joining LSU, Dr. Magner served as the Executive Director for the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21), the leading national organization that advocates for 21st century workforce readiness. He also served as Vice President of Keystone for KC Distance Learning (KCDL), operating the nation’s largest private online middle and high school. In 2004, Dr. Magner was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as the Director for the Office of Educational Technology for the U.S. Department of Education, where he was responsible for coordinating the development and implementation of the Department’s educational technology policies.

His other work experience includes serving as the Deputy Executive Director for the Council of Chief State School Officers, the Director for the Schools Interoperability Framework Association and the Executive Director of K12 Education for the Microsoft Corporation.

"Tim's ideas and energy really stood out to us during the interview process," said Chair of the President Search Committee Robert Dean. "He brings a wealth of experience that will be a significant benefit to our community."
