The debate about the route of the big Mardi Gras parades heats up again as we move into the Lenten Season.

The subject came up at the end of the meeting of the Broadmoor Neighborhood Association meeting. Some residents say it's time to look at making a change. One resident told members the parades have gotten so big, that it might be time to look at adjusting the route to avoid many problems the parades bring to the neighborhood.

Mayor Ollie Tyler told the group: "while some of you might want to change the route, half of your neighbors tell me they want to keep the parades in Broadmoor."

Shreveport City Councilman Oliver Jenkins says he would like to look at the possibility of reversing the route of the Krewes of Centaur and Gemini and beginning those parades in Broadmoor during daylight hours and ending those parades in the downtown area. He says this "idea is worth studying to see if all of the logistics can be worked out, but we have a ten year contract with the Krewes and that runs through 2021."
