SH Figuarts Announces High-End Action Figures Of Stone Cold Steve Austin And The Rock, Just In Time For Christmas
If you’re even tangentially into anime or tokusatsu, then you’re probably already familiar with SH Figuarts, the high-end line of action figures from Bandai and Tamashii Nations, but if you’re not, let me tell you how much I love them. They’ve been around for a few years now, and with their dedication to high levels of articulation, screen-accurate sculpts and an incredible amount of interchangeable hands, faces, and accessories, they’re arguably some of the best action figures you can get — and since most of their output has to do with Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, and Sailor Moon, I’m always keeping an eye out for their next big release.
And now, it looks like I’ve got to clear off another shelf. This December, as part of what I can only assume is a mission to target me, specifically, they’re releasing the first two entries in a line based on late ’90s WWE Superstars, starting with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and The Rock. And yes: Austin comes with a beadazzled skull vest and a couple of Stevewiesers.
Oh hell yeah. [Glass shatters]
For those of you who require more information than “these action figures will let you play out a scenario where Kamen Rider Fourze, Sailor Moon and the Texas Rattlesnake all become best friends and go surfing with Batman,” the figures will be out in December with a retail price in Japan of 6,480¥, or about $65. If you’re looking to import (and Lord knows I am), they’re probably going to be a bit more expensive.
As for the specifics of the figures, they’re based around the iconic looks of the two wrestlers circa 1999, when WWE (then WWF) was in one of the hottest periods of its history.
As for whether they’ll continue with the line to bring us more Attitude-Era wrestlers — or if they plan on moving to the present day and giving us the sheer majesty of an Enzo Amore SH Figuarts — or maybe even move into bringing some classic Japanese wrestlers, that remains to be seen. The possibility is there, though, and I want it to happen super badly.
