The National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Bossier Parish in Northwest Louisiana until 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13 which includes the city of Bossier City.

At 2:18 pm CDT national weather service meteorologists detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. This storm was located 7 miles north of Benton, or 19 miles north of Bossier City and moving south at 40 mph.

This is a dangerous storm. If you are in its path, prepare immediately for damaging winds, hail, and deadly cloud to ground lightning. People outside should move to a shelter, preferably inside a strong building but away from windows.

In addition to hail and damaging winds...continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately! Lightning is one of nature’s number one killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
