Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis has been busy.

Tuesday, the Saints signed former Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd to a six-year, $54 million dollar deal -- $28 million of that is guaranteed.

Byrd was a three time pro-bowler for the Bills.  Last season he missed the first five games with the Bills and still collected four interceptions and 48 tackles.  In 2009, Byrd led the NFL with nine interceptions as a rookie.  In a game against the Saints last season, Byrd collected three solo tackles and a pass defensed in a game in which Drew Brees threw five touchdown passes.

Saints Give Pierre Thomas Two Year Extension

Today, the Saints announced a two year contract extension with running back Pierre Thomas. Thomas will be signed with the club through the 2016 season. Thomas had over 1,000 yards from scrimmage last season including a career high 77 receptions. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Thomas likely saw his cap number decrease.

The Saints had been shopping Thomas around for a trade but did not receive enough attention. The team is currently shopping running back Darren Sproles for a trade.  The club could not afford to lose both running backs. Thomas is expected to take a back seat role next season to Khiry Robinson and Mark Ingram
