Rick Santorum appears poised for victory today in Louisiana, according to a final pre-primary poll. Santorum leads Mitt Romney, 42% to 28%, among likely Republican primary voters in the survey by Public Policy Polling.

Newt Gingrich has 18% support, and Ron Paul is at 8%.

"Rick Santorum's headed for another victory in the South today," said Dean Debnam, president of Public Policy Polling. "The good news for Mitt Romney is that the next month of the campaign will play out on much better terrain for him."

The Democratic firm asked voters about ex-Louisiana governor Buddy Roemer, who abandoned his GOP presidential bid to run as an independent. Roemer is supported by 2% of likely GOP voters.

The poll of 650 likely GOP voters was conducted Wednesday and Thursday. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.8 percentage points.
