Remembering SPD Officer Thomas LaValley

Thomas LaValleySaturday, August 5th marks 2 years since Shreveport Police officer Thomas LaValley was gunned down while responding to a family disturbance call in the Queensborough Neighborhood.
LaValley was born on December 19, 1985 in Baton Rouge, LA and was killed in the line of duty serving the citizens of Shreveport, LA on August 5, 2015.

He was a 2003 graduate of St. Amant High School and was a member of the wrestling team. He graduated from NSU and worked as a cameraman at KTBS, but he was drawn to service and he went to the Shreveport Police Academy. He graduated at the top of his class and proudly served on the Shreveport Police Department for 4 years.

The folks at Twin Blends Photography did this moving tribute to all fallen officers:

Everyone who knew Thomas will tell you what a kind and funny man he was. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid New Orleans Saints fan. Even his cat “Drew” was named for his favorite Saints player.

Grover Cannon, was arrested a day after the shooting after an intense manhunt. He is charged with first degree murder and could face the death penalty, if convicted.
His trial was scheduled to begin earlier this year, but that has been delayed until April 18th, 2018. Assistant Caddo D.A. Ed Blewer is prosecuting.

The 29-year-old LaValley was responding to a call in the 3500 block of Del Rio Street when he was gunned down. Detectives believe LaValley was shot six times.

LaValley’s close friend, Chris Redford tells KEEL News “Thomas was family to me. We worked together every single day as the crime team at KTBS. Even after he left to join SPD, we talked every single day including the day he was killed. That kid meant the world to me and there’s not one day that goes by I don’t think about and miss him.”
