Just days before he’ll play in his third Superbowl, New Orleans native Peyton Manning has been honored by the Louisiana Sports Writers who selected him as the 2013 Louisiana Headline of the year after his record-breaking season with the Denver Broncos.

Peyton won this same award it's inaugural year in 1999.

Peyton had the most prolific statistical season of any quarterback throwing 55 touchdown passes and breaking Drew Brees' single season passing record with 5,477 passing yards.

Peyton did not actually receive the most first place votes from the LSWA, that distinction went to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame opening in Natchitoches.

The final voting was the closest it's ever been between the story that won the award and the story that came in second place.  The opening of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame was a close second as the biggest Louisiana Sports headline of the past year.
