At least one local mom wants Caddo Parish to go back to in person classes Monday through Friday.

Jessica Miller has started an online petition at change.org to get support for her proposal. So far she has gotten more than 700 signatures and that number keeps growing. Bossier Parish returned to five day a week in person learning this week and more districts are following suit. But baddo parish has not made the change. Local students are still following a combination plan of in person and virtual learning. But miller, who is the mother of 2 middle school students says it’s time to get back to class.

She says students need to get back to interaction with others and get away from the screen. She believes this online learning model is hurting children.

The online petition says:

“Hybrid” is serving two masters and faithful to none. Parents students and faculty have expressed concerns and disappointment. The risk of COVID-19 to the Louisiana school community is low. According to Louisiana Public Heath data, zero deaths have occurred in Caddo Parish in the group aged 0-22. Also, from that data, we know that the median age of death is 77 years old.

A spokeswoman for Caddo Schools issued this statement: "The district has been very clear in that instructional models would not be tied to a phase set by state or federal leaders. Instead, the instructional model is determined at the local level based on the best information available to school system leaders."
