Luke McCown is happy to be back in Louisiana and playing football with the New Orleans Saints.

McCown is a nine-year NFL Veteran, former Louisiana Tech standout, and the son-in-law of long time Shreveport-Bossier sportscaster Bob Griffin

After spending last season with the Atlanta Falcons, McCown was signed to a one-year free agent contract with the Saints and will compete with Seneca Wallace for the spot to backup Drew Brees.

According to the Bleacher Report, McCown said he had a great season in Atlanta but is happy to be back with the Saints.

"But this is a great place to play football, a great place to play quarterback and it's a team that is contending every year. That's what you look for. This is the kind of team you want to be part of, a team that has all of the pieces in place and just has to have the right breaks throughout the season and play consistent football and you are going to be in the hunt."

McCown is more than ready to compete for the starting job.

"For me, my mentality is the same no matter where I am or who I am backing up," he said. "I have to be prepared to play. I am preparing to start, I want to be the starter. That's the mentality you have to have. As a player that is the mentality you should have and you shouldn't be satisfied with any other mentality otherwise."

Speaking of Drew Brees, McCowin said, "We always find different ways to compete whether it is working out or throwing the football after working out. Anytime you can compete, that's what it's all about. That's what makes it fun."

McCown added, "You learn a lot, being around a guy like Drew you are going to learn a lot," said McCown, who has made just nine starts in a career that now spans five different teams. "If your eyes are open and your ears are open, you are going to learn a lot from a guy like that.

"Whether it is for two weeks or 10 weeks or a whole season and you are around a guy like that you are going to come away better."
