National Blowout: National League Dominates American League

In a game where we witnessed a team get shut out for the first time since the 1996 All-Star Game, the game, believe it or not, was exciting.

The National League, with a little "help" from Chipper Jones before the game, let it be known they want home field advantage in the World Series!

The National League came out of the gates swinging! In the top of the 1st inning, the lone Milwaukee Brewers All-Star representative, Ryan Braun, made his presence known, doubling to right, sending home the Giants' Melky Cabrera, making the contest 1-0.

The other Giants' representative Pablo Sandoval continued the inning, TRIPLING to right field, sending home Ryan Braun, the Cardinals' Carlos Beltran, and the third Giants' rep Buster Posey. That made the score 4-0! Side note: that was Pablo Sandoval's FIRST triple of the year, and it came at a...somewhat important time.

Following an infield single by the Braves' Dan Uggla, the inning ended with the N.L. leading 5-0!

Nothing occured offensively until the top of the 4th inning when the Cardinals' Matt Holliday smacked a single to right, sending home his St. Louis teammate Rafael Furcal.

With Holliday left on the basepaths, the Giants' Melky Cabrera made sure he found his way home! Cabrera launched a long ball to left field, causing the game to simply get out of hand, with the score 8-NOTHING!

The pitching performances by many weren't that bad. The Giants' Matt Cain, who started the game for the N.L., pitched stellar and was credited with the win! Meanwhile, Justin Verlander, who got the loss, was just ready to return home to Detroit after he gave up five earned runs on four hits in 1 inning of work!

It's was a great All-Star Game for many, including Chipper Jones who announced he'll retire at the end of this season. Thankfully the rest of the boys in the National League clubhouse took Chipper's pregame words to heart!
