It's common to see animal mascots on the sidelines for major college football programs. But most of the time you're talking about dogs or birds, not giant creatures like tigers. That's where LSU is different.

For decades, Mike The Tiger has been a part of LSU Football lore. But this season, Mike The Tiger might be taking a long break. Here's more from the Louisiana Radio Network:

"LSU’s live tiger mascot will stay in his habitat during home football games this season. In light of his recent cancer diagnosis, officials will not attempt to load Mike into his trailer. Ginger Guttner with the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine says Mike’s radiation treatment on his tumor has had a positive impact, but unfortunately the Tiger remains terminally ill and has up to two years to live."
