The idea of seeing Spider-Man in the MCU used to seem totally crazy, but here we are. Tom Holland’s web-slinger is set to make his debut in Captain America: Civil War in just a couple of weeks, and early reviews have been overwhelmingly positive about the new Spidey. But that’s Civil War. Sony’s last two Spider-Man movies were kind of a mess, to say the least, so a little skepticism regarding their upcoming reboot is understandable. Rest assured that Spidey is in good hands, according to Kevin Feige.

There’s been a little confusion about the studios’ joint efforts on Spider-Man: Homecoming. We know that Marvel is involved, but Sony is ultimately distributing the film, so who has final say here? HeyUGuys caught up with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige at the Civil War premiere in the U.K., where he effectively laid some fears to rest:

Well, I’ve known all those people for a very long time. Amy Pascal, Tom Rothman, who runs Sony now, I’ve known for years. So, it’s been great. They really are supportive in allowing us to make the creative decisions to make [Spider-Man: Homecoming], but they’ve been great partners. So far so good on that movie.

Following the disastrous Amazing Spider-Man movies, you’d have to imagine that Sony would be grateful for help with the web-crawler’s new reboot. It wasn’t that long ago that the now-infamous Sony hack revealed that the studio was desperately cooking up all sorts of spinoff plans to keep the franchise afloat, including an all-female Spider-Man character team-up (to be fair, that one still sounds like a cool idea). Those emails also revealed that Sony was trying to figure out how to make a deal with Marvel to collaborate on a possible Spider-Man reboot.

And now they are. With Marvel in creative control of the reboot, our optimism remains intact. We’ll see Holland’s Spidey on the big screen when Civil War arrives on May 6. Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
