Yesterday (Saturday), LSU scrimmaged without Mathieu. The 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist was kicked off the team Friday. The reason was reportedly the latest of many failed drug tests since 2010.

Quarterback Zach Mettenberger didn’t have to be told to throw the ball to freshman cornerback Jalen Mills, who took the snaps that Mathieu would have taken.

“We’re going to pick on those young guys, and see how they handle the pressure,” Mettenberger said. “Mills has had a great camp so far. He’s got a lot of talent. ... I’m looking for big things from him.”

Tyrann Mathieu is searching for another place to play. He has talked with McNeese State, an FCS school in Lake Charles, La.
