For the first time this season, the LSU Tigers lost despite outshooting their opponent. The Auburn Tigers beat the purple and gold Tigers 81-77 Thursday night in Baton Rouge.

LSU had an opportunity for a game-tying free throw with 11 seconds left but missed, then the Tigers weren't able to take advantage of an Auburn turnover with three seconds left.

The homestanding Tigers were 29 0f 66 shooting (43.9 percent) compared to 26 of 61 shooting (42.6 percent) from Auburn. The difference in the game could be boiled down to shooting from the three-point line and free throw line. Auburn made 9 of 20 from behind the arc and LSU was only 4 of 17.  From the charity stripe, Auburn hit 20 of 27 and LSU made 15 of 23.

Jordan Mickey led LSU with 23 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks. Jarell Martin managed another double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Tim Quarterman added 17 points off the bench.

Once again LSU turned the ball over 15 times, leading to 20 points for Auburn.

LSU will remain at home for their next two games.  The Tigers take on Alabama at 5pm on Saturday.
