LSU Jumps on Lamar, Wins 11-2

The Tigers scored six runs in the first inning to blow the Lamar game wide open. LSU also got some nice pitching from Senior Kyle Bouman.

TOP-RANKED LSU DEFEATS LAMAR, 11-2

BATON ROUGE, La. – Top-ranked LSU scored six runs in the first inning for the second straight game as the Tigers defeated Lamar, 11-2, Wednesday evening at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

The Tigers improved to 32-6 after a strong start on both offense and defense. Lamar dropped to 17-19 on the year.

LSU senior left-hander Kyle Bouman produced his longest outing of the year at five innings to move to 1-1 on the year. Bouman allowed just one run on five hits and struck out three batters.

Lamar’s Billy Love (0-1) was charged with the loss. Love walked two and gave up five runs on three hits.

“Kyle pitched very well tonight, and he’s been getting better each time out,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “He’s been working himself into a rhythm as a midweek starter, and he gave us a very strong outing tonight. We had some great at-bats against a Lamar staff that had some very good arms, and I thought we accomplished everything we needed to in the game. We’re looking forward to traveling tomorrow to face a very talented Georgia team this weekend.”

LSU returns to action for another three-game Southeastern Conference series this weekend. The Tigers face off against Georgia in Athens beginning Friday at 6 p.m. CT. The games will be available online only via SEC Network+ and can be accessed at WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app.

LSU erupted for six runs on Wednesday against Love and relief pitcher Will Hibbs, all with no outs in the bottom of the first. Right fielder Mark Laird started things off with a single up the middle to score the leadoff man, Jake Fraley. After Alex Bregman walked, doubles by Conner Hale and Kade Scivicque added three runs. Chris Chinea added a double of his own to score two more runs.

In the bottom of the second, Bregman pushed the lead to 7-0 with a solo home run to left field. The junior produced his eighth dinger of the year, tying second baseman Jared Foster for the most on the team.

Chinea joined the home run party and tallied his third and fourth RBI of the game with a two-run shot to left field in the bottom of the third inning.

Lamar reliever Galen Andrews threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded and two outs to score Greg Deichmann in the bottom of the seventh.

Pitcher Collin Strall recorded the Tigers’ 11th run of the game with an RBI single to left field, marking his first career collegiate hit.

Lamar scored a run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run by centerfielder Brendan Satran.
