LSU Tigers' defensive end Danielle Hunter was given the honor of defensive lineman of the week by the SEC. Hunter made seven tackles and knocked down two passes Saturday night as LSU claimed a 17-6 victory over the Florida Gators in Tiger Stadium.

The sophomore from Katy, Texas said, “It caught me by surprise. I was driving to the opps building, and a friend of mine texted me with the story.”

Hunter played as a backup behind ends Barkevious Mingo, Sam Montgomery and Lavar Edwards in 2011 who are all now in the NFL. He has started in the last four games and has 32 tackles for the season.

LSU is now (6-1, 3-1 SEC) and eligible for a bowl game for the 14th season in a row. LSU will face off with Ole Miss in Oxford this Saturday, Oct. 19 at 6:00 p.m. and you can hear the game live on 1130 AM The Tiger.

LSU moved up to number 6 this week in the AP Top 25 Poll.
