LSU is ranked No. 1 this week in all six college baseball polls, marking the seventh week this season the Tigers are No. 1 in at least one poll. LSU has won 14 of its last 16 games and seven of its last eight.

LSU was 3-1 in its games last week, including an SEC series victory over second-ranked Texas A&M in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. The Tigers batted .330 in the Texas A&M series and collected 35 hits in three games against the Aggie pitching staff, which has the best team ERA in the SEC (2.47).

“We were pleased to win last weekend’s series against a very good team, and I was very proud of the way our guys performed in a big-time, high-pressure type of atmosphere,” said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. “We know that there are even bigger games to come where championships may be a stake, so we have to continue to play as hard as we can and place ourselves in the best possible position to reach our goals.

“Alcorn State certainly presents a challenge – I vividly remember last season when they were beating us 6-1 in the sixth inning and we had to hit three home runs to come back to win the game. Anything is possible over the course of a nine-inning game played by 18-22 year old kids.”

LSU is No. 2 in the nation and No.1 in the SEC with a .320 team batting average. The Tigers are paced offensively by senior catcher Kade Scivicque -- the SEC’s third-leading hitter – who is batting .380 on the year with 13 doubles, five homers, 32 RBI and 22 runs.

Junior infielder Collin Carroll is batting .331 with 13 doubles, 10 homers and 41 RBI, and junior outfielder Earl Burl is hitting .290 with seven doubles, three triples, four homers and 24 RBI.
