LSU Baseball Loses First Series Opener to Texas A&M after Rain Delay!
After a 1 hour 45 minute rain delay, play final began in College Station between the 3rd ranked LSU Tigers and Texas A&M. LSU lost their first SEC series opener of the season 2-1 in front of a sparse crowd at the rain-soaked Blue Bell Park.
The Aggies got a nice performance from starting pitcher Daniel Mengden. He limited the Tigers to one run on five hits in eight innings work. A&M closer Jason Jester came on in the ninth to record his school record 13th save of the season.
LSU head coach Paul Mainieri tinkered with the line-up, moving Rhymes, Bregman, Katz and Ibarra all up one spot in the order. But, it was likely the rain delay that messed with the Tiger offense's mojo.
LSU could only plate one run. Raph Rhymes scored the first run of the game in the sixth inning after singling and being knocked in on an Alex Bregman double.
Starter Cody Glenn took the loss, he gave up two runs in the seventh inning (one earned) after an LSU error by Bregman.
The Tigers and Aggies play Game 2 today at 6:30pm, Sophomore Aaron Nola will start for LSU. Nola has thrown four consecutive complete games and is 9-0 on the season.
