La Tech’s Speedy Smith Named to All-Defensive Team

Louisiana Tech’s Kenneth "Speedy" Smith has been selected as one of 25 players for the Lefty Driesell Defensive All-America team.

The announcement was made on Monday, March 31.

It’s just one of many awards Smith has received this postseason along with first team All-Conference USA, Conference USA All-Defensive team, Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year and Conference USA All-Tournament Team.

Speedy broke the program’s record for steals in a single season with 90, which was the third most in the country this season.

As a member of the Defensive All-America team, the St. Petersburg, Fla., native is automatically a finalist for the 2014 Lefty Driesell National Defensive Player of the Year award.
