Kylo Ren and Rey’s Official ‘Star Wars’ Bios Received a ‘Mysterious’ Update

In the world of Star Wars fandom, the simplest, smallest things can have major implications, inspiring exhaustive speculation over their potential meaning — like, for instance, Lucasfilm’s recent updates to Kylo Ren and Rey’s official character bios. Those pages were quietly updated sometime in the last few months to include phrases that convey a direct connection between the two characters; one that seemingly goes beyond their on-screen encounters in The Force Awakens. But what does it all mean?

Heroic Hollywood picked up on small changes that Lucasfilm made to both Kylo Ren and Rey’s official bio pages on StarWars.com. Kylo’s bio now includes a bit about how he has a “mysterious connection” with Rey, while her bio refers to it as a “strange connection.” Those lines were not originally present in their respective bios — which change over time as Lucasfilm releases new, official character info or as the events of the films play out, obviously.

It’s difficult to know when the pages were updated — which might help us figure out why it’s so important —  but since the changes were clearly made sometime recently, it might have been in response to the unveiling of the official title for Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. We already know that Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley’s characters have at least one thing in common via the Force, but fans have speculated that the connection between the two runs deeper than that — they might be siblings, or they may have encountered each other in the past (something the official tie-in novelization suggests more overtly than the film), though Rey doesn’t remember.

The bottom line: That “connection” thing could mean a few different things, or maybe it just supports what we already know. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Similarly, the title The Last Jedi could mean many things; it could be singular or plural, literal or figurative, and it may even have larger existential implications in the Star Wars universe. With the film hitting theaters on December 15, it won’t be long before Lucasfilm start shedding a little more light on what we can expect from the next chapter in the saga.
