KTBS Sports Director Paul Crane has drawn criticism from sports fans after comparing AdvoCare to Pinocchio, the wooden puppet whose nose grows whenever he lies.

Crane made the comparison on KTBS' Tuesday (Feb. 11) evening newscast, saying that AdvoCare had earlier claimed they were getting out of the football business before they ditched Shreveport, La.'s Independence Bowl for Houston's Texas Bowl.

Crane discussed the report Wednesday (Feb. 12) morning on The Tim Fletcher Show, saying that his intent was to "draw a snicker while making a point."

Fletcher asked Shreveport Times Sports Editor Roy Lang to offer his take on Crane's report. Lang believes Crane got the story wrong.

"There was nothing that [AdvoCare President and CEO] Richard Wright said guaranteeing that they were going to be around. As a matter of fact, he was very straightforward, saying 'if you don't help us, we're going to take our money elsewhere.'"

AdvoCare had sponsored the Independence Bowl in Shreveport since 2009, until ending their relationship with the bowl game last year.
