Horror anthology seems to be all the rage these days, and where TNT failed with a Shyamalan-curated horror block, John Carpenter will pick up the slack. The Thing director will develop Tales for a Halloween Night at Syfy as part of an overall Universal deal to develop new series.

Universal Cable Productions confirms that Carpenter has signed an overall development deal to executive produce scripted programming for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, along with external networks and streaming services. First and foremost, that will include Syfy’s Tale for a Halloween Night, described thusly:

Based on Carpenter’s award-winning graphic novel anthology of stories where he brings together storytellers from the worlds of movies, novels, and comics for a collection of horror stories featuring graveyards, sunken ships, creepy crawlers and ghosts that will haunt your dreams long after you’ve finished reading.

Also in the works is an adaptation of Nightside, based on the Simon R. Green literary series, with MTV Scream alum Jill Blotevogel writing:

Nightside is the secret heart of London beating to its own rhythm, pumping lifeblood through the veins of its streets and alleys, hidden in eternal darkness where creatures of the night congregate and where the sun is afraid to shine. It’s the place to go if you’re looking to indulge the darker side of your nature—and to hell with the consequences.

The search for a writer on Tales for a Halloween Night is underway, so stay tuned for the latest on Carpenter’s ongoing TV adaptations.
