Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the special legislative session beginning Tuesday and what Governor John Bel Edwards sees as the solution to Louisiana's budget crisis, including new revenue.

After Friday's veto of the budget bill by the Governor, Dardenne tells KEEL listeners that to solve the state's money troubles "we've got to raise some revenue." The Commissioner says, "It's pretty obvious by the two budgets that were passed...that the legislature is unable or unwilling to make the cuts that are reasonable to try and balance this budget. So, the obvious result is that we need additional revenue to make things work."

Referring the to one penny temporary sales tax that goes off the books at the end of June, Dardenne says the failure to avoid the fiscal crisis lies with the Republican controlled state legislature. "(They) balked at every opportunity to enact some tax reform." He says that lawmakers have repeatedly ignored task force recommendations to make up the fiscal gap.
