Like most folks, you've probably never really read Facebook's Terms of Service. But it you had, you would have seen this telling gem:

Facebook users provide their real names and information, and we need your help to keep it that way ... You will not provide any false personal information on Facebook, or create an account for anyone other than yourself without permission."

This broadly ignored rule recently become more relevant because Facebook has been sending out surveys to some users asking them if certain of their friends' names are "real."

According to a Facebook spokesperson, who talked to TPM, they are not collecting information for enforcement. Instead the spokesperson explained they are simply trying to get a “better understanding of our ecosystem."

Nevertheless, once you tag a friend as a name faker that information will be with Facebook forever. So if Zuckerberg and company do eventually decide to get tough on those who have violated their Terms of Service your friend will be forced to social network on Google+ or MySpace, if it even still exists.

Bottom line: Don't snitch.
