Homer Man Convicted Of Felony DWI

A Claiborne Parish man will soon receive a jail sentence after a jury convicted him of felony DWI in Caddo Parish Court.

Randel Ivan English, 42, from Homer, who was being tried for his third-offense felony DWI, heard the verdict from a jury of four men and two women after just over two hours of deliberation Wednesday afternoon.

John Prime, from the Caddo DA Office writes:

On Oct. 18, 2013, English was stopped by police in his 1998 Ford Ranger in Broadmoor after a concerned taxi driver, who had driven him from a downtown nightspot to his car outside another club, alerted officials.

English has a prior conviction for DWI in 1999 and two prior convictions for DWI in 2007, as well as a 1999 conviction for flight from an officer.

Caddo District Judge Brady D. O’Callaghan set English's next court date for July 6 where he will face post-trial motions and findings of a court-ordered pre-sentencing investigation.

English faces at least one year, but could receive up to five years in prison and a fine of $2,000. At least one year of the sentence must be without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. If the judge suspends any part of the remaining sentence, English faces supervised probation and parole for the period dismissed.
