WrestleMania 34 is coming to New Orleans in just a few short weeks. The big event is happening at the Superdome on April 8th. Now, I know a lot of people don't get wrestling, but everyone in the state needs to become a wrestling fan at least for the next few weeks because WrestleMania is going to be big business for the state.

You can laugh...its ok. But, you won't be laughing when I'm done. WrestleMania is one of the top sporting events in the world. Let that sink in for a moment. According to Forbes, WrestleMania is the 5th largest sporting event in the world...ranking behind the Super Bowl, the Summer Olympics, the Winter Olympics and the FIFA World Cup.

Which means it is bigger and generates more money than NCAA March Madness, the NCAA College Football Playoffs, the World Series and several other big time events. Here's another tidbit of info, Mania is actually attended by more fans than the Super Bowl and several of the other events ahead of it...they just don't charge fans as much for seats, so it generates a little less money.

Speaking of money, the financial impact of WrestleMania is MASSIVE. Last year in Orlando, the event had an economic impact of over 180 million dollars. And this year, in New Orleans, many experts believe that it could top 200 million. But, let's take a look at the financials from last time WWE's Big Show came to NOLA in 2014:

* $142.2 million in direct, indirect and induced impact derived from spending by visitors to New Orleans for WrestleMania 30.

* 79 percent of fans that attended WrestleMania were from outside the greater New Orleans region and stayed an average of 3.7 nights.

* $22.5 million was spent on hotels and accommodations within the New Orleans region.

* $10.7 million was spent by visitors to New Orleans at area restaurants.

And THIS could be the greatest and most historical Mania of all time. So far, we have the long awaited re-match between Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles. Roman Reigns will be taking on Brock Lesnar in what could be Brock's last wrestling match ever (rumor is he's either retiring or going back to the UFC). We'll also see the debut of Ronda Rousey, the possible in ring return of WM30 superstar Daniel Bryan, the Undertaker's last match and a whole lot more.

So, if you're not a wrestling fan, you better become one. Because starting on April 2nd, New Orleans will be the Wrestling Capital of the world for 2 weeks and will make a TON of money for the state and local businesses.
