LSU students who are currently enrolled in the military or have served in our nation's armed forces are getting a much-needed addition on the Baton Rouge campus.  Coordinator for LSU Veteran and Military Services, Adam Jennings, told the Louisiana Radio Network that a 4600 square foot Military and Veterans Student Center will be constructed.

This facility will allow those students a place to meet, study, work with tutors, or meet as groups without having to leave campus.

We’ll also have full computer labs with printing capabilities so they can come in and use the computers for free, print for free, and then there’s also meeting space for the Student Veterans Club.

Currently, the university is consulting with contractors and architects on the project. Construction is expected to begin once the plans have been approved and a contractor has been hired.

This new veteran’s center is going to be a premier destination that will help us attract veterans and recruit them, as well as make them successful at LSU.

There are nearly 500 active students on the LSU campus that have served our country in the military. There are also some 1600 plus military dependents that are connected with those military students.

If you're wondering where a cash-strapped state institution is coming up with the funding for a project of this magnitude, Jennings explained that this way.

Dr. William Brookshire, he was a graduate from LSU, and he generously donates $1.2 billion to make this project happen. So we’re very thankful for that.
