Multiple sources have reported that former LSU Tiger DJ LeMahieu is on his way to the Bronx. The New York Yankees have reportedly put together a 2-year-deal with LeMahieu that will net him at least $24 million.

The Yankees have been a rumored destination for free agent superstar Manny Machado, but with the signing of LeMahieu, that might end those rumors. LeMahieu will either earn a start spot on the infield, or will serve as the utility man behind Miguel Andujar, Gleyber Torres, Luke Voit, and new Yankee Troy Tulowitzki.

Some believe that LeMahieu will be the insurance policy for Tulowitzki, who has dealt with his share of injuries over his career.

The other piece of the Yankees infield is Didi Gregorius, who is still recovering from Tommy John surgery. He will miss the start of the season, but the team is hoping he will be ready to go at some point during the regular season.

LeMahieu has spent his entire MLB career in the National League with the Colorado Rockies. For his 8-year career, LeMahieu has a .298 batting average, 49 career home runs, 349 RBIs, and 75 stolen bases. The numbers might not be eye-popping for an 8-year career, but he's been a starter for about half of that time. He was tops in the National League for batting average in 2016 with a .348 average, and is a two time All Star.

Maybe more than his skills at the plate, LeMahieu is known for his glove. Since becoming a regular starter in 2013, LeMahieu has won 3 Gold Gloves for his defensive work. Which is pretty impressive for someone playing in Colorado. In fact, LeMahieu is the defending Gold Glove winner at second base in the National League, and is on a two-year streak.

Before his MLB career, LeMahieu played for LSU in 2008 and 2009, leading LSU to a National Championship in 2009. He played in two College World Series, in both 2008 and 2009, while at LSU. He was then drafted by the Chicago Cubs, before being eventually traded to the Rockies.
