The Evangel Eagles came into this game with a week one loss to Texas powerhouse Allen High School,who has over one thousand football players on their team, With a 45-10 score. Evangel didn't skip a beat when scheduling tough non-district opponents with going up against traditional powerhouse Neville High School at The Battle On the Border friday night.

The Eagles were dominated by Neville's defense,anchored by linebacker Robert Williams and Herschel Carter, the Tigers controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Neville had two sacks and did not give a sack against the highly hyped Evangel defense. Neville High put alot of pressure on Evangel quaterback Connor Curry,he threw for 18-33 272 yds,2 TDs and 2 INT,he also took a lot of big hits behind the line.

After Neville had 10 yd TD run by Jaiden Cole with 2:13 left in the second quarter, the Eagles put on a great two minute drill down to the 27 yard. Evangel set up for a field goal on the 27 yard line and defensive back Corey Straughter blocked it and the Tigers returned 83 yards for a touchdown to end the first half. which left the momentum completely on the Tigers side.

The key player for Neville was QB Jadien Cole who went 3-10, 77 passing yards,and a TD with 19 carries,135 yards rushing and two TDs.

Key players for Evangel were Wide Receiver Tanner Ash with nine catches for 156 yards and a touchdown and on defense defensive tackle Davin Cotton with 12 solo tackles and a forced fumble.

Next week Evangel Christian Academy has Legrange come to Rodney Duron Field at 7 p.m.
