A conflict between players and fans caused Tuesday night’s Boys state high school basketball playoff game between Evangel and Albany to end in forfeit with the Eagles officially earning a 52-40 victory.

A chippy battle between the two schools escalated when Albany’s Justin Thompson received a bloody cut above his right eye causing him to leave the court. That led to an Albany fan stepping on to the court to criticize the officials. As Caddo deputies led the unruly fan off the court, Albany’s Justin Thompson re-entered the court and got into an altercation with the Evangel student body.

At least five Albany players soon left the bench area to join in the may-lay and were automatically ejected leaving them with only five eligible players. The Albany coach elected not to continue and thus forfeited the game.

The Eagles will move on to the third round of the LHSAA tournament.
