‘Deadpool’ Director’s Cut Will Include Extra Footage, Will Be ‘Even More Raw’
Deadpool will be the first R-rated Marvel movie since 2008’s Punisher: War Zone; it was officially rated R by the MPAA for “strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity.” Pretty intense stuff for a superhero movie! But, if you need your Deadpool to get even more intense, star T.J. Miller says there is a planned Director’s Cut of the film that will be “even more raw” than what you see in theaters.
Other Marvel directors like Joss Whedon and James Gunn have pushed back against the notion of “Director’s Cuts” because, as they’ve explained, the version they’ve released in theaters is their cut and there’s nothing they’d want to change about their films. It’s unclear if Deadpool director Tim Miller feels differently, or if Fox is just looking to squeeze an extra buck out of the pockets of Deadpool fanboys, but it appears we’re eventually going to get some unrated superhero action. Here’s T.J. Miller, on stage with Ryan Reynolds after a Deadpool fan screening in London, explaining:
Consider Deadpool is already a pretty hard-R, we’re actually a little intrigued to see what they possibly had to cut out of this film. It’s a Marvel comic book movie with “strong violence” and “graphic nudity” what else could their possibly be?
The Deadpool Director’s Cut will likely make its debut on the film’s DVD and Blu-ray release later this summer. For now, you’ll just have to settle for the theatrical version, which hits theaters on February 12.
