Condolences from KWKH go out to the family and friends of Charlie Daniels member Joel ‘Taz’ DiGregorio. He was killed in a car accident last night (October 12, 2011) outside of Nashville, Tennessee.

Taz was on his way to bus call late last night when he wrecked his car in a single vehicle accident on I-40 in Cheatham County. He died as a result of the injuries.

Taz was the keyboard player and vocalist for the Charlie Daniels Band  for over than 40 years. He co-wrote some of the band’s biggest hits, including ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia,’ ‘The Legend of Wooley Swamp’ and ‘Simple Man.’

Charlie Daniels said, “I am in shock now, Taz was one of my best friends. The Charlie Daniels Band family has lost a great friend and musician. We traveled many miles together and shared so many nights on the road.” Here is a statement posted to the band’s website.

The CDB was planning to leave Nashville last night and play two shows this week, the Cumming County Fair and Festival in Cumming, Ga. on Thursday (Oct. 13), and Saturday (Oct. 15) at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, Conn. Both shows have been canceled due to Taz’s death.

No funeral arrangements for Taz DiGregorio had been announced by press time.
