‘Carrie’ Review

For a gal named Carrie White, she's sure got a lot of red on her.

Watching Kimberly Peirce's 'Carrie' is an odd experience. If you've seen Brian De Palma's version from 1976, this new version is - and there's really no point in denying this - like watching a cover band. There's a tweaked scene here and there (including a new, creepy-as-heck opening) plus the addition of cell phones and references to 'Dancing With The Stars.' This remake, more than most, really feels like hitting the same marks. It may be a peculiarity specific to 'Carrie,' because, let's face it, not a whole heck of a lot happens in this story. Considering most moviegoers' familiarity, there's plenty of room to stew and think, "Why is this considered such a classic?"

Hank Williams Jr., ‘That Ain’t Good’ – Song Review

Hank Williams Jr. has released his most radio-friendly single since ‘That’s How They Do It in Dixie’ cracked the Top 40 in 2006. ‘That Ain’t Good’ doesn’t sacrifice an ounce of the legend’s anger or attitude, but this uptempo bluesy cut isn’t three minutes of soap-boxing, either.

Kenny Chesney, ‘Come Over’ – Song Review

The second single from Kenny Chesney‘s upcoming ‘Welcome to the Fishbowl’ album finds the singer returning to his old blue chair in an effort to pour his soul into a six-chord cask. It’s not clear yet if Chesney wrote ‘Come Over,’ but like many of his best ballads, this cut feels very, very personal.

Don’t look now, but eight of Blake Shelton‘s last nine singles have topped the country music singles charts. ‘Over’ could very well become his seventh straight, but that’s more a testament to the artist than the song.
