The Byrd Yellow Jackets will play the Marshall, Texas Mavericks on Saturday, Sept. 8. The Byrd‐Marshall game will be the first game of a double header, which is part of the second annual Battle on the Border. Kickoff for the game is set for 3 p.m. at Independence Stadium in Shreveport. The nightcap has the West Monroe Rebels battlingthe Calvary Baptist Academy Cavaliers.

About the teams

The Yellow Jackets finished the 2011 season with a 12‐1 overall record. Byrd captured the District 1‐5A title, its first since 2002, and advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 1964. The Jackets return just four starters from last year’s team. Byrd is 0‐1 after losing 38‐14 to top‐ranked West Monroe last Saturday. Marshall owns a 0‐1 record after last week’s 42‐0 loss to the Kilgore Bulldogs in the Mavericks’ season opener.

The top‐ranked West Monroe Rebels exacted some revenge on the Byrd YellowJackets on Saturday, Sept. 1. After losing 30‐23 to Byrd in the 2011 seasonopener, West Monroe was determined to make sure history didn't repeat itself. The Rebels took advantage of five Byrd turnovers to pound the Yellow Jackets 38‐14 on a steamy, hot Saturday afternoon at Rebel Stadium. The Marshall Mavericks were shut out 42‐0 by the Kilgore Bulldogs in their season opener at Kilgore.
