Blake Shelton Says Goodbye to Rocker Jordis Unga on ‘The Voice’

All four members of Team Blake were singing for their future on the show Monday night, after it was announced that one of the four would be sent home immediately after the night’s final performance. RaeLynn, Jordis Unga, Erin Willett and Jermaine Paul made Blake Shelton‘s decision very, very difficult.

RaeLynn opened the show with a sassy rendition of Jason Aldean‘s ‘She’s Country’ that Christina Augilera said made her want to start singing country music. The 17-year-old continues to shake her tiny frame in ways that make eyeballs fall out of the heads of teenaged boys nationwide.

Twenty nine-year-old Unga also went country, singing Sara Evans‘ ‘A Little Bit Stronger.’ Her version was more tender than even the original, and the singer was left on the verge of tears as she finished the stripped-down arrangement. Shelton chose the song to let the Minnesota rocker showcase her voice, and all four coaches agreed that it worked.

The biggest risk of the night was Willett’s performance of ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ by Adele. Aguilera and Cee Lo Green made mention of how difficult it is to recreate a song like the hit from one of today’s best known vocalists. While Willett’s version was almost perfect, it will be compared to the original from the biggest album in the world.

Paul was the night’s final performer from Team Blake. The longtime backup singer to Alicia Keys again proved that he’s ready be a headliner, singing ‘Against All Odds’ by Phil Collins. “Jermaine is a superstar,” Shelton said. It was hard to believe he’d be the one Shelton would choose at the end of the night.

After Aguilera took a long time to send Jesse Campbell home, Shelton had to rush his decision. It was already made however. “I was really hoping for somebody to come out here and not do a good job,” he said. “It just didn’t happen tonight.” So the country singer defaulted to the contestant that received the fewest votes two weeks ago, meaning an emotional goodbye for Jordis Unga.
