Even as Arrow once again revoked access to Deathstroke, fans kept hope that recent references to Batman and Wonder Woman might signal greater leniency with the major DCEU characters. Not so, apparently, as Arrow boss Marc Guggenheim once again shoots down the notion that Justice League-rs Batman or Wonder Woman might make their CW debuts.

Keep in mind that CW producers have long downplayed potential for the most recognizable DC heroes to appear in the Arrow-verse, though both The Flash and Supergirl’s Superman have raised questions about the exact embargo. More recently, Arrow seemed to one-up FOX’s Gotham with its first mention of an adult Bruce Wayne, while Legends of Tomorrow visited Wonder Woman’s home island of Themyscira. Lest we get too far ahead of ourselves, however, executive producer Marc Guggenheim told ComicBook that the major embargoes remain in place for now:

No, I love a good Easter egg, and I love doing the occasional name drop. You know, we name dropped Hal Jordan at the beginning of Season 3, but it’s really just fun for us. I think in the Arrow-verse we have our own Justice League and the Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Batman … these are all characters that are either spoken for on the movie side and/or other shows. There’s a Bruce Wayne on Gotham. […]

Over here on the CW, we’re sort of a mischievous lot, and we enjoy the occasional Easter egg. And our partners at DC are very tolerant of our mischief. But that’s really all it is. Just good nature, good fanboy mischief.

Granted, the Arrow-verse has repeatedly expanded with major characters joining the ranks, though at least a few Justice League heroes remain off-limits. The CW also has enough characters to keep track of between four series (not to mention Black Lightning in 2018), without the franchise’s flashiest players pulling focus.

At the very least, Supergirl will introduce the Legion of Superheroes when the CW series return in 2018, but might DC one day change its mind about heavy-hitters?
