BOSTON, Mas. (AP) —Boston may be confronting local opposition to its bid to host the Olympics. But Americans across the country overwhelmingly support the idea of the games on home turf.

That's according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll released Sunday.

The poll finds nearly 9 of 10 Americans support hosting the games in the United States. That support dips, however, when respondents were asked if the Olympics should be in their local area. It dwindles further when respondents are asked if they would support using public funds to pay for them.

An effort to host the games in Boston has hit a number of roadblocks. U.S. Olympic officials will discuss the city's bid effort at a meeting this week.
