Character actor Alex Rocco has died at the age of 79. Perhaps best known for his role as mobster Moe Greene in 'The Godfather,' he was also a highly successful voice actor, performing in shows including "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy."

Rocco, born Alessandro Federico Petricone in Boston, played the casino owner with underworld ties in the 1972 cinema classic. He called the role of Greene, "without a doubt, my biggest ticket anywhere."

He won an Emmy in 1990 for outstanding actor in a comedy series "The Famous Teddy Z', in which he co-starred with Jon Cryer.
